We are a mere two days away from our departure to Agua Viva in Mexico. The youth are getting excited and truth be told...I am too. Having a few mission trips under my belt now I am becoming somewhat accustomed to the preparations involved but the unknown continues to be something that gets the heart pumping.
The weeks leading up to this trip have been
interesting. There have been many
weeks of preparations and meetings.
We are as ready as we can be and from everything that I have observed,
we are all really really looking forward to this trip.
One interesting thing that I noticed while discussing this
trip with others is that I kept hearing that it was nice that we were “giving
up” our spring break to go to Mexico.
It struck me that I never heard anything like that from the youth. None of the people going on this trip,
to my recollection, have ever said anything even remotely like that.
I think it is very teling that no one here has the attitude
that we are “giving up” anything or thinking that there would be something
better that we could be doing instead of heading out on this adventure. I would go a step farther and say that
no matter what we have in mind for what to expect, God has an entirely
different and wonderful plan that we will discover as we go along. In truth there are hundreds of things that are a lot more fun to do than travel for four days cramped in a van...sleeping in for instance. As we move through the week I hope that everyone will see that this has been a worthy endeavor that is worthy of "giving up" a week for.
It is a testimony to the youth of our church that they are
all willing to embark on this journey with an expectation that all things will
work out according to a plan that we are not fully aware of.
More later!
